{"id":34,"date":"2008-07-11T20:27:24","date_gmt":"2008-07-12T02:27:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coolchecks.net\/blog\/?p=34"},"modified":"2014-01-26T15:11:32","modified_gmt":"2014-01-26T21:11:32","slug":"mortgage-loans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.coolchecks.net\/blog\/managing-money\/loans\/mortgage-loans.html","title":{"rendered":"Mortgage Loans In The News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolchecks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/mortgage_loans.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-35\" title=\"mortgage_loans\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.coolchecks.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/mortgage_loans.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"99\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nMortgage loans<\/strong>\u00a0are in the news today as two of the largest <strong>mortgage companies<\/strong> in the United States, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac,\u00a0lost nearly half of their stock value during the week of July 11, 2008.\u00a0 They own\u00a0over one half of all the mortgages in the United States, with a total value of $5.2 trillion dollars.\u00a0 They have posted $11 billion in losses.<\/p>\n<p>For the average Joe, those numbers are barely imaginable. But wait&#8230;let&#8217;s see what $5.2 trillion looks like&#8230;$5,200,000,000,000.00.\u00a0 So if they&#8217;ve lost $11,000,000,000.00 what is left? Try $<span style=\"font-size: 10pt; color: #000000; font-family: Arial;\">5,189,000,000,000.00.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So what percentage of their assets did they lose?\u00a0 I believe that would be .002. Please correct me if I&#8217;m wrong. To relate that to everyday living, if your monthly take home pay was $3,000 and\u00a0you lost .002 percent of that, how much would that be?\u00a0 $6.00.<\/p>\n<p>Is that why Senate Banking Committee\u00a0chair Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.)\u00a0 called the mortgage giants sound, saying they are being unfairly punished by Wall Street?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mortgage loans<\/strong> are probably the single largest purchase you will make in your lifetime so it makes sense that a lot of people are doing searches for the term &#8220;<strong>mortgage loans<\/strong>.&#8221; In fact, according to one reliable keyword tool on the Internet, there\u00a0are 637,449 daily searches for just the word <em>mortgage<\/em>.\u00a0 That same keyword tool tells us that all of the advertising dollars spent on just the word <em>mortgage<\/em> during one month total $4,603,982.63!\u00a0Google is making money from the mere\u00a0word &#8220;<strong>mortgage<\/strong>&#8220;!<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line is that people with\u00a0risky (sub-prime) loans\u00a0are defaulting on their mortgages causing nationwide economic worries.
