American Bald Eagles

The American Bald Eagle has been used as a symbol of the United States since 1782. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson all had input on choosing the American Eagle to represent the Great Seal of the United States. Ordering checks with the eagle on them is easy to do and reminds you of the great history of America.

American Bald Eagles are birds of prey that can be found in North America. Being the national bird of the United States of America, the bald eagle stands as the country's symbol. The American bald eagle is a sea eagle with the white-tailed eagle as its species pair. These beautiful birds are found in Alaska and Canada and even northern Mexico. Most bald eagles are seen in open water where there is abundant food supply and where old trees are readily available for nesting.

The bald eagle makes large nests, the largest of its North American peers. The nests measure up to 2.5 meters in width, 4 meters deep and 1.1 tons in weight, an amazingly big nest compared to other birds in Northern America.

This type of sea eagle is large with a length of 70 to 102 cm. and a wingspan of up to 96 inches, weighing 15 pounds. Female bald eagles are 25% larger than the male bald eagle. All adult bald eagles have a white head and tail along with yellow irises. The rest of the body is dark brown. Female and male bald eagles are identical in color with bright yellow beaks and feet. Bald eagles' legs are free from feather and the toes are very short yet armed with a powerful talon used to pierce prey upon pouncing. The plumage of non-adult bald eagles is all brown with a few white speckles appearing during their fifth year when bald eagles finally reach sexual maturity.

The bald eagle's diet consists of fish. Being a bird of prey it is a very opportunistic feeder hunting fish by pouncing down the water and snatching the fish with its talons. The lifespan of these beautiful creatures is up to 30 years in the wild. However, they survive longer when in captivity. The bald eagle was on the brink of being extinct in the continental part of the United States but its population has flourished in much of Canada and Alaska in the late 20th century. Today, bald eagles have a very stable population and have finally been removed from the federal government's listings of endangered species.

Having the images of such a powerful bird on your checks is something very refreshing. Apart from it being a symbol of power, which will truly inspire you of being American, getting checks with bald eagles is a unique way to show your love for animals, specifically birds.

Having bird pictures on your checks is the newest of trends in personalized checks with nature, birds in particular in the background of your usually boring checks. Not only are they pretty, they will make your checks look much better and you will love looking at them as well. Having a personalized check with the American bald eagle on it is a good way to project your personality through your checks. Now is a great idea?
